In recent years we have come to the realization that our cow/calf operation needed to change. Our calves have been lacking in quality and uniformity, and such inconsistencies have been reflected at the auction mart each fall. Last year at this time, we came across this very website, and we are proud to say that today we have two white bulls walking amongst the herd. The yearlings have surpassed our expectations with their breeding libido, easy disposition, and natural fleshing ability. After each breeding 35 cows this summer, we were extremely pleased with their condition upon returning home.
We cannot say enough about our two boys, nor can we say enough about the Defoorts. Gord and Sue embraced us in every sense of the word. We were welcomed into their home, treated like family and we cannot thank them enough for their patience, advice and support throughout this transition.
It is with great anticipation that we wait for our first charolais influenced calves to arrive. 2009 will be our best calf crop to date, with huge genetic improvements in uniformity, performance and carcass value. We are certain we made the right choice, and will be sure to return to Defoort Stock Farm for additional herdsires in the future.
