Great Grandpa Rueben Frey homesteaded what we know today as Freyburn Angus Farms in 1906. Since then Grandpa (Harold) Frey and Dad (George) Frey ventured into the cattle industry.

Dad and Grandpa raised purebred Shorthorn cattle from 1955 to 1971. During that time Dad purchased his first Angus cows in 1967 from Wilfred Willoughby. Since then we have continued the family tradition by raising quality, time tested functional Angus cattle. In 2005 Dad decided it was time to slow down and lighten the work load, so he could enjoy his grandchildren and take it a little easier. Dad decided to disperse his share of the purebred cattle. He and Mom help out when asked but for the most part are enjoying retirement from the cattle business.

Since Dad dispersed his cows in 2005 we have continued building on an already strong time tested herd of purebred Angus Cattle. In 2019 Melissa and I, along with our children, took sole ownership of Freyburn Angus Farms. We currently have 150 purebred Angus cows on the farm and 100 commercial Angus influenced cows. While we are growing our herd, we have kept in mind that the commercial man is number one. We have bred our cattle based on the quality and not the papers they carry. By keeping this in mind we have been able to supply our customers with cattle that go out and work for the working man.

We have selected top quality bulls and females from very reputable breeders. Last breeding season we walked U2 Temptation 180E. We purchased Temptation from U2 as a yearling for $47,000. He is the son out of the famous U2 Erelite 109Z cow who sold for $140,000 in the U2 dispersal sale in the fall of 2019. We also walked bulls from Merit, Bar- E-L, Border Butte, Eastondale and South Shadow Angus and select homegrown sires. We also use a strong group of AI sires.

Remember, anytime you’re in the area feel free to stop by and view the cattle, or at least pop-in for a coffee. Don’t forget our Family Traditions Bull and Female Sale, April 16, 1:00pm at the farm.
