For the past 25 year's Charolais have been the primary breed of cattle to walk the pastures at KCH. It all started with the purchase of 5 purebred cows in 1979, and today the love affair still continues. Since that modest start, our herd has swelled to over 90 purebred cows and 70 commercials. Our Commercial cow herd is primarily British based, which we breed to our home raised Charolais bulls. This allows us to find out exactly how our cattle perform in the real world and shows us where we need to improve our genetics. We focus on calving ease, closely followed by performance. We all know that we need live calves to help pay the bills. But live calves that wean off HEAVY in the fall is what really counts. With this in mind, over the years we have developed cattle that have both calving ease and performance locked in.

We are strong believers in maternal strength. That is why all of our cows are selected for this highly desirable trait. But, we don't stop there - we also cull hard for bad feet, poor temperatments, poor feed efficiency and poor fertility. Our cows are required to work for us (not the other way around)! They are fed and managed the same as our commercial herd. Our cows are the life blood of our operation; they are sound, functional cattle that are modest framed and easy keeping. But like all operations, they are only ½ of the equation. Your cow herd is only as strong as your bull battery. We are extremely proud of the bulls we have found to compliment our cows. They have many strengths and few weaknesses. I think you will be impressed with what our operation has to offer…
