Charolais Scholarship |
 |
My name is Cameron Claeys I am 19 years old and attending Assiniboine Community Collage in Brandon Manitoba. I am currently in my second and final year of studies were I am pursuing a diploma in Agribusiness.
Upon completion of my diploma I plan to move home, continue farming with my farther and take over the farm. Our farm is a fourth generation mixed farming operation with both cattle and grain, located in the Cypress River area. My family has had cattle on the farm for as long as it has been operating and it will continue to have cattle as long as I am there.
Our heard is over 80 percent charolais and we currently run three charolais bulls. We breed charolais because we are looking for a cow that brings power and performance to our herd. Charolais cows do this with great mothering ability, high milk production and good calving ability. Also the caves have great power and performance with high weight gain from birth right into the feedlot. The highest weaning weights and best weight gain on our farm comes from charolais cows and bulls and this is why we do and will continue to breed charolais cattle on our farm for years to come.
