MCA SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

Hi, my name is Bobbie Karen DeVries (born April 23, 1990). I was raised on a farm all my life. Our family farm involves both Dairy and Charolais cattle.

Our registered Charolais herd consists of 45 cows. A-I has been the main form of breeding within the herd over the last 21 years utilizing bulls like Monte Carlo, AJ Mercury, Mr. Perfect, Cigar and Nobleman. We market our registered bulls through private treaty to local farmers.

My older brother and I always spent many hours outside following our dad around as he did his daily chores.

My involvement in our local community consisted of positions within our church youth group, church choir, and visiting our local Personal Care Home to help with the activities. I have been involved in several Drama productions during my high school years, while also mentoring two students through their English course and teaching piano lessons to some community kids.

Having the privilege to grow up on a farm has helped me to appreciate the importance of the agriculture sector. I am not a city girl and will always prefer to live in the rural area.

This is one reason why I chose to attend Millar College of the Bible over the last three years. It is a very small personable college nestled in the small community of Pambrun, Saskatchewan about 45 minutes South East of Swift Current. Our school has involvement within the surrounding agriculture communities.

My future interests would definitely involve drama and education, as drama is one of my majors at the college right now.

So even though my involvement in our farm may not have been as hands on as some other farm children I am still very proud of my farm roots and that I had the privilege to grow up on our family farm.

I thank you for taking the time to consider my application for the Manitoba Charolais Association Youth Scholarship.
