Charolais Calves Selling Strong in Ontario

This is an email to let you know how good Charolais cattle are selling in Ontario.  Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, we sold Charolais stockers at Talbotville Livestock Exchange.  We had a group of 17 Charolais steers.  They averaged 750 lbs and they sold for $1.65  1/2  /lb.  That is $1241 a piece.  We had a group of 19 Charolais heifers that averaged 765 lbs and they sold for $1.45/lb, which is $1109 a piece.  A group of smaller heifers sold for $1.54/lb.  That should pay for the feed for the old cow!  It sure is an exciting time to be in the cattle business.

    Charolais Feeders Selling High
    Posted October 15, 2011

Here is a note from Steve Quinton, Char-Maine Ranches at Cardston, AB.

    Helge,
Read about the silver Charolais steers,  awesome!!!! October 15 at Ft. Macleod Auction Shaw Ranches sold tan/white strs 729 lbs @ $1.5035.
Donahue Ranches 658 lb tan strs @ 1.565.
Snake Creek Ranch 685 lb tan hfrs @1.4550.
How is that for the Charolais Breed? Most ranchers with Charolais calves averaged over $1000 for strs and over $900 for hfrs.
Talked to the order buyers, they say they pay so much for these Charolais cause they convert and will finish in April in the high market! They were fighting over them today, and did not cut back whites cause they were white if the quality was there!
Excellent for Charolais and the cattle industry !
    Steve

    Silver Charcross steers topping market
    Posted October 12, 2011

Here is an excerpt from the Canadian Cattlemen’s online editorial on Oct. 11th by Jerry Klassen who is a commodity market analyst in Winnipeg. I highlighted the Silver steer section which is $1,130/head. Anyone still concerned that the silver steers won’t sell?

The weaker Canadian dollar, along with stronger beef prices and lower market-ready supplies, caused fed cattle to jump $4 per hundredweight (cwt) last week.
Alberta packers paid up to $111/cwt in a struggle to fill nearby demand. Feeder cattle prices followed suit, edging up $2-$3/cwt on average, with lighter-weight cattle up as much as $5/cwt in some instances. Charolais-cross silver age-verified steers weighing 825 pounds were quoted at $137/cwt in central Alberta. Pfizer Gold age-verified angus cross steers averaging 528 lbs. reached $161/cwt. The market is firm, with stronger demand surfacing for heavier cattle, and feedlots looking to take advantage of shortkeep replacements.
