Dominate Agribition Commercial Show
Charolais cross calves dominated the 2003 Agribition Commercial Show, November
28 in Regina. The Grand Champion Pen of Feeder Steers was won by Bar Crossroads
Ranch of Edam with a pen of 10 Charolais/Hereford-Simmental cross steers that
weighed 944 lbs. and sold the next day for 1.25 1/2 or $1,185/head. Combine
that with the $1,000 in prize money from the CCA and the SCA and Steve Harty
took home $1,285/head. The Grand Champion Pen of Feeder Heifers was won by Keith
& Blade Young, Tyvan with a pen of 10 Charolais X heifers. Tlhe Grand Champion
Pen of Open Replacement Heifers was also a pen of 5 Charolais/Hereford heifers
from Garon & Krista Pretty, Weyburn.

Beck Farms, Lang won Supreme over all breeds beating out 14 pens at this
years Pen-Arama Show, November 27 in Regina. Their three bull calves by Winn
Mans The Game 102L averaged 1,070 lbs. at 290 days for a average WDA of 3.70
lbs.

Sharodon Win Toronto Royal
Wat-Cha Farms, Mount Forest, had the Grand Champion female at this years Toronto
Royal Show, November 7th. Wat-Cha Maxium Awesome a yearling daughter of Impressive
D040 was Champion while Medonte Lace 7L (a two-year old SVY Guardian daughter
with her XAL Letterhead 9L bull calf at side) was judged Reserve Grand Champion
for Medonte Farms, Hillsdale.
Sharadon Farms, Omemee had the Grand Champion bull with Sharodon Maverick 14M a yearling son of JSR Grid Iron. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was XAL Letterhead 9L a two-year old son of KC Stolichnaya owned by Medonte Farms.

Win Manitoba Livestock Expo Supreme Beef Extravaganza
The grand champion Charolais Bull and Female teamed up to win the first Supreme
Beef Extravaganza held at the conclusion of this years Manitoba Livestock Expo
held November 5-8th in Brandon, MB. This new concept saw the bull and female
champions from each show judged together against the other breed champions.
The winning bull and female owners each received $250, while the Manitoba Charolais
Association was awarded $500 and a 1/3 in the M.C.P.A Newsletter.
CAD Sugar Ray 35N was also the Reserve Champion at the Keystone Konnection All Breed Bull Calf Jackpot show. 39 Bull calves of seven breeds competed with an Angus bull from Swindon Ranch winning. CAD Charolais received $1,000 and an Aluminum show box for his winnings.

Mania Bull Show Winners
Bridge Lake Charolais held the winning ticket for the Moo-La Mania, held
in conjunction with the Alberta Select Sale on November 8, in Edmonton. They
went on to chose CIRCLE CEE CINCH 315N, a 1040 lb. son of LHD Cigar E46 from
Circle Cee Charolais of Lamont.

Stauffer Win Farm Fair International
The Grand Champion Female at the 2003 Farm Fair International Show, held in
Edmonton on November 7, was RKG BARBIE DOLL 125K, a LLW Double Take daughter
with her HFCC Evolution 5L calf at side, owned by SanDan Charolais of Erskine.
Reserve Grand Champion Female was BLC DOLL 11M, sired by Baldridge Fasttrack
and exhibited by Buffalo Lake Charolais, Stettler.
STAUFFER'S OASIS 35N, a Sparrows Advantage son, was the Grand Champion Bull, shown by Stauffer Land & Livestock of Eckville. Reserve Champion Bull was SDC GENERATOR 26N, owned by SanDan Charolais and sired by HFCC Evolution 5L.

CAD Charolais, Shaunavon, SK showed the Grand Champion Female with PLEASANT
DAWN PAM 214J, a four-year old daughter of Bar J Hot Point, with her SVY Guardian
heifer calf at side. Reserve Grand Champion Female was HFCC ANASTASIA 7L, a
two-year old Sparrows Alliance daughter and her HFCC Pld Chrome heifer calf,
for Harder Farms, Clavet, SK.
National Champion Bull at this 148 entry show was WESTDALE GO NORTH PLD 3N,
a Sparrows Alliance bull calf from Westdale Cattle Co., Tisdale, SK. Reserve
Grand Champion Bull in Brandon was CAD SUGAR RAY 35N, a VMN Habanero bull calf
from CAD Charolais.

AB. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was Lady Fane The Hulk 12N (Val-End Journey
20J) from Lady Fane Charolais, Crapaud, PEI. Grand Champion Female of the 26

from CKM Charolais, Hunter River, PEI. Reserve Grand Champion Female was Crosby's

Haven View Charolais, Cornwall, PEI won three divisions while Ralph Taylor,

Breeders Raise Money for B.C.Fire Relief Fund
Bruce & Belle Carson of Pemberton donated a yearling heifer to be auctioned
off at the Interior Provincial Exhibition (IPE) all-breeds exhibitors' barbeque
held at Armstong, August 30th. The proceeds went to the Canadian Red Cross
B.C. Fire Relief Fund with $10,800 raised. ALT Misty Track 104M was Res. Junior
and Res. Grand Champion Female at the show earlier and sold twice. The first
time for $6,200 to as many people who wanted to make a donation to the fund
and then for $4,600 to first time purebred Charolais buyers Keith and Chelsea
Balcaen of Coldstream Ranch Ltd. Thanks go to Tim Bullick; Keith Atlwasser
and Neil Gillies who helped make this happen. To make a donation to the Red

Interior Provincial Exhibition held in Armstrong B.C. on August 30, judge Martin
Bahrson of Hanley, SK chose MISS PRAIRIE COVE 325N, sired by BKJ Buckaroo, exhibited
by Prairie Cove Charolais, Alix, AB as the Grand Champion Female.
Reserve Grand Champion Female was ALT MISTY TRACK 104M, a Baldridge Fasttrack
daughter shown by Bruce Carson, Pemberton.

Win CCYA Junior Show
Megan Harder, Clavet won grand champion female honours at the 2003 Canadian
Charolais Youth Association Show held July 26 in Moose Jaw, SK. Megan's two-year
old, HFCC Anastasia 7L (Sparrows Alliance) with her HFCC Chrome heifer calf
at side were slapped grand champion by judges Mike & Kelly Howe of Moose
Jaw. Reserve grand champion female honours
went to Tanisha Bullick, Alix, AB with Miss Prairie Cove 212M (BKJ Buckaroo).
Nearly 100 entries paraded before the judges.

wins Vulcan & District Regional 4-H Show
Jessica Wyatt of Arrowwood, AB won grand champion steer honours at the Vulcan
& District Regional 4-H Show with a Charolais, Hereford cross steer. The
steer weighed 1,250 lbs. and sold for $2.40/lb. to the Furniture Villa in
Vulcan. Jessica is a member of the Arrowwood 4-H Beef Club.

wins Saskatoon Regional 4-H Show
Megan Harder of Clavet won the Saskatoon Regional 4-H Steer Show with a
Charolais, Hereford cross steer. The 1,326 lb. Buckskin steer beat out 110
steers to win and sold for $3.00/lb. to a group naming themselves Mad About
Beef. This steer was also part of the winning group of five (all buckskin
steers) as judged by Scott Severtson, Innisfail, AB.

Win Back to Back Calgary Supreme Show
For 2 years in
a row a Charolais Bull has won Supreme Champion at the Caglary Stampede Stock
Show. HFCC BOND 19L, a
2150 lb. son of Sparrows Alliance and owned by Prairie Cove Charolais, Alix,
AB and Fawcett Cattle Co., Consort, AB captured this prestigious award at
the Supreme Show, held July 13. Sixteen breeds were represented.

GERRARD EVETTA 2L, sired by SVY Bedrock 816H, exhibited by Gerrard Cattle

Stampede Charolais Show held on July 8. Reserve Grand Champion Female was
PLEASANT DAWN PAM, sired by Bar J Hot Point 63F, exhibited by Cadieux Charolais,
Shaunavon, SK.
HFCC BOND 19L, sired by Sparrows Alliance and exhibited by Prairie Cove Charolais, Alix, and Fawcett Cattle Co., Consort was the Grand Champion Bull. SDC REVOLUTION 33N, sired by HFCC Evolution 5L and owned by San Dan Charolais, Erskine, was Reserve Grand Champion Bull.

HBSF Cross Roads 6L a two-year old son of CS Pld Junction 4J, from High Bluff
Stock Farm, Inglis was slapped Grand Champion Bull at this years Heart of
Canada Show held July 5th in Portage la Prairie, MB. Judge Keith Troop selected
Holmsyde Wild Card 218M a yearling son of SVS Jack-Pot 8J, from Holmsyde Charolais,
Forrest as the Reserve Grand Champion Bull.
In
the female side of this 32 entry show SOS Lady Perfect Pld 2M a yearling Mr
Perfect daughter from the Manitoba Syndicate, Woodmore and Springside Farms,
Shortdale was chosen Grand Champion Female. High Bluff Lace 22L a two-year
old daughter of CS Pld Junction 4J with her RC Rain Maker heifer calf at side
was selected as the Reserve Grand Champion Female.

Re-Elected President of the MCA
Wayne Ramsey of Cardale was re-elected president of the Manitoba Charolais
Association at their Annual General Meeting held July 4th at Portage la
Prairie, MB. The rest of the executive also remained the same with Ian Milliken,
Reston as 1st Vice-President; Harry Airey, Rivers, 2nd Vice-President and
Doug Hunter, Roblin, Secretary/Treasurer.
Re-elected to the board of directors for three year terms were Hunter, Randy
Froese, Winkler and Donald Toms, Amaranth.
Ernie and Irma Esau of Elm Creek were honored with a Pioneer Breeder award
at the show the following day.

Wins Carstairs 4-H District Steer Show
Will Harvie, 16 year-old-son of Ian and Marlene Harvie, Olds, Alberta, won
Grand Champion Steer at Carstirs 4-H District Steer Show & Sale on June
5, 2003. Doug Robertson, of Airdire, judged the 81 competing steers. Will's
steer was a purebred Charolais from his parents herd. This is the second
homegrown steer of Will's to win this title. The steer weighed 1,299 lbs.
and sold for $2.30/lb. to the Carstairs Co-op. Will is a member of the West
Didsbury 4-H Club.
