Velda Rose Charolais is a four-generation beef and grain/special crops farm situated in south-central Manitoba. The farm home steaded at the turn of the century is located 2 miles south of Mariapolis on # 23 highway. We crop 3000 acres and have an additional 1000 acres of marginal land suited to our Charolais herd.

We have been in the Charolais business for some 40 years and are proud of our 150 cow herd and its improving genetics. All replacement stock are selected within our own cow herd. Rather than “best cows”, we have “best cow families” that we are proud of. Over the years we have culled hard and aimed for structural soundness, high fertility, good disposition and adequate milk supply. We have bred genetics for low maintenance cattle with calving ease, not sacrificing our great strengths of performance, yield and carcass quality.

Over the years we have supported the provincial Bull Test Stations at Douglas and Gunton. Performance accomplishments were consistently in the top third, having won awards for Banner Bull, High Gainer and the Get of Sires. The consistent high performance of our claves at the test stations has resulted in top sales and satisfied customers.

We now hold our own Annual Bull Sale in order to streamline our production sales. Our bulls have natural thickness, good muscling and easy fleshing ability. They have strong feet, quiet temperaments and great hair coats and our red bulls carry some of the best red factor genetics available.

We believe in performance testing – from weight gains to ultra sounding our bulls for back fat, marbling, rib eye area, and lean meat yield. This extra data can help you select a bull that will compliment your herd and take you to your goals quicker. We have bulls from a number of herd sires to allow you to choose genetics for your specific needs within your cow herd.

The Two-Year old bulls we sell have been on grass in the summer until November and then put on good hay and oats. They are all virgin bulls that are well developed and will do a lot of work for you.
