Located in the heart of cattle country approximately 20 miles northeast of Virden, Manitoba is TRI-N Charolais Farms.

TRI-N Charolais Farms is a family run mixed cattle and grain operation. Merv and Joanne Nykoliation have one son (Jesse) and one daughter (Brittni) that play a very active role in the farming operation.

Currently we are calving out approximately 300 purebred and commercial females. Having a large commercial herd lets us know exactly how our bulls are working as we have retain several every year.

In 1986, Merv Nykoliation ventured out into the purebred Charolais business with the purchase of a few Charolais females. His original goal was to produce thick, beefy bulls to use on his large commercial herd.

Over the years, we have learned that dead calves do not GROW and high birth weights mean a high vet bill. For these reasons we have stressed calving ease without sacrificing performance and maternal traits.

Over the last several years, we have been producing RED FACTOR bulls to supply the ever increasing demand for tan Charolais cross calves. Many of our customers have had great luck with the red factor bulls by retaining the color in their calves or by getting black calves on black cows.

Test stations have played a key role for us. Bulls were marketed through the Northwest (Roblin), Douglas and Yellowhead Bull Test Stations. Throughout the years we had many high gainers.

Bulls are now marketed annually by private treaty and through the Cattlemans Classic Bull Sale held in Virden, MB during late March/early April. This sale has been extremely successful for us selling bulls throughout Canada and the USA. In 2012 we were honoured to have raised the high selling bull in Canada (TRI-N Prefix PLD ET 54Y).

The coffee is always on and feel free to stop by anytime.
